our story

re-est. in 2017

We love the Cuchara Valley.  It’s hard to describe what it means to us.  Raising our family wouldn’t be the same without our trips to the valley.  We did so many things together, such as hiking, fishing, exploring, mini-golfing at the Bear’s Den, dancing at the Dog Bar, playing games at the kitchen table, bear watching, and trips to Charlie’s for ice-cream are just some of our incredible memories.

So, in 2017 our family made a big purchase.  The property is formally known as the Cuchara Valley Lodge.  The Lodge was demolished after a long abandonment, but two buildings remained.  A recreational building and a swimming pool building.  We got crazy and creative.  We turned the old swimming pool building into a four bedroom, three bath, cabin.  It was an adventure.  And with a deadline!  Our son and his soon-to-be wife wanted to get married there.  So, in late October, they were wed with the backdrop of a babbling brook, aspen trees, a pond, great family and friends…and a new cabin.  The recreational building worked great for a wedding reception.  We ate and danced the night away.  It was an event more magnificent than any dream.

So as high as our past experiences in the valley have been we look forward to the future.  Living in a parsonage has been a blessing for our family, but if our church ever gets tired of us, we need a place to go for good.  So we hope you’ll come and enjoy, and have a blast and make memories in the valley as we have.  We want to share our jewel and joy with you.  There is something special about the Rockies and the Cuchara Valley.  And there is something spectacular about sharing it with someone you love.

Sincerely,

The WOod Family
